Went to the orthopedic doctor last week and was set up for an MRI this past Monday. Returned to the doctor on Tuesday for the findings:
1. Full-thickness retracted post interval supraspinatus insertional tendon tear
is associates peritendinobursitis, glenohumeral capsulosynovitis and mild
fibrofatty mascle replaement.
2. Low-grade outlet stenosis from from AC arthrosis and type 2 acromion configuration
I guess what all that mean is that I have a rotator cuff tear with the added bonus of a bone spur and it all has to be fixed.
I am now scheduled for shoulder surgery on the 22nd of Nov.
So, Thanksgiving should be a good time, as I am left-handed and the shoulder that was MRI'd was indeed my left.

I really don't even what to say about the whole thing....
All I can say is.......WTF!!!
I finally got some really good hay this season! I worked most of the weekend un stacking and re-stacking elsewhere so I could get the good hay in the back for use when the girls start milking again.
I had done all my shoulder and knees could handle. I called a friend of mine and he and his son came over Monday afternoon while I was at work to RE-STACK my hay in a prescribed order (third cut hay to the back first cut hay to the front).
When I left the Barn Monday morning, the first cut hay way on the ground stacked nice and neat, all tied in so it wouldn't fall over yadda yadda yadda...all that was needed done was the finish unloading the third cut hay and put it in the very back and then grab the hay in front of it and put it on top of that and then the first cut hay , stack nice and neat in the front so I could use it first.......Ummmm this is what I came home to...
Funny thing....I asked him if he himself would feel safe climbing up on the stack to get bale down?? His answer was a very quiet "...no..."
They will both be back this coming weekend to re-stack the whole thing. That means the cleaning of pens will have to wait yet another week, but at least the hay will be stacked properly...

Last Fair of the Season for the girls....
Sorry this took me so long to finish the fair season updates. The last show was the first weekend in September...
Husker Haven Compass Rose did a great job yet again. She did herself one better this last show, taking home the Grand Champion Ribbon. I hope that her breed (Recorded Grade) was sanctioned! Can't wait to see her freshened next Spring!!!
The rest of Kids all finished the season with colds! It was so cold and windy and the last two fairs some of the kids are having a time getting over their snotty noses. They have been getting medicine everyday. They get one kind for a couple days then another. I may have to talk to the vet this weekend.

Fair Time Fun..........is that what it is????
I leave tomorrow for the Darke County Fair. I only have 5 or 6 goats clipped and still have 5 or 6 yet TO clip, a few more that need feet trimmed and 4 kids need to be tattooed. I have to load the trailer up tonight with hay, straw, grain, feed pans, water buckets and all my clothes, enough for two shows, Darke and Allen Counties. Have to pack food.....I don't think i will be able to leave as early as I wanted to...

Post Op Doc Visit..
Stitches are out and some kind of tape that disappears it on there. He told me any ground that is level, I am good to go, I can ride my bike(I guess mountain biking would be out) and walking out in the yard is probably not a good thing for me. I guess since my way to the barn isn't paved, I will just have to risk it. As for chasing the goats down out in the pasture....guess I'm really not supposed to be doing that, but nothing else I can do, I have to catch them twice a day unless they just don't go to the show, I suppose that could happen.

Post Knee Op update
I am just over a week out of knee surgery now. I worked half days at work this past week, coming home to elevate it and ice it down. I got my milking goats back at the end of the week as well. Milking them is the easy part, it catching them that gets me.
Want to shout out a HUGE Thank You to Nanny Berry and Family for coming to my rescue and putting up with the girls for me!! And to my brother who came up here and helped me out by taking care of the rest of the critters while I was out of commission!!
My knee feels pretty good as long as I ice and elevate it when I know I have used it too much. I have a doctor appt on Tuesday, I guess I'll see what he'll have to say then.
The guys miss ya Craig!
Here is also some updated pictures of rest of this years kids.
Sorry Yelena, it was the best of the 20 or so I took. The kids just won't stand still.

Knee Update
I had arthroscopic surgery on Friday, the 6th. The went in and cleaned everything out that they could, including a 1/2" chunk of bone that must have broken off a long time ago. The doctor said that has to be most of my pain right there.
I went in at 8 am operated on just before 10am and home by noon. Spent most of Friday in a vegatative state in bed. By Saturday night I was out in the barn (on crutches) helping my brother do chores. Sunday I think I was out there morning and night helping the best I could on crutches.
Today I get to take the bandages off, glad about that as the sock things to prevent blood clots are itching like crazy!

A stormy night brings the sun
Friday, July 30, 2010
I went to the orthopedic doctor in June about my knee problems. They talked back and forth about what they should/could do about trying to get my knee working right. It was decided that I would get a shot in the front of my knee which I believe was to lubricate the joint. After about three days my knee felt great, like I had never had a problem to begin with. I could even run again, not that I ever ran all that much anyway, but the fact that I could was AWESOME! Then about a week ago or so I started getting sudden stabbing pains again. Not with every step, but maybe once every couple days or so. Well, Tuesday I night I had finished chores and had just gone to bed when the dog came up and whined in my face. Oops, I forgot to let the dogs out. I got up out of bed and took a half step and fell to the floor. The pain in my knee would not allow me to put any weight on that leg at all. I ended up using crutches to get to the back door to let the dogs out.
I managed to talk to the doctor on Thursday and actually get an appointment for the same day! Normally I can’t get in for a couple weeks but lucky me I guess he wanted me in there that day same day. He told me he couldn’t give me another injection because you can only have four of them in a years time. For some reason the fluid they inject can actually breakdown your cartilage. I figured that would be fine with me, I don’t have any left anyway, so why not. He wouldn’t do it. He said the only thing that he thought would help, short of a replacement, would be to have arthroscopic surgery.
In asking him how long I would be out of commission, he told me two weeks. Ignoring the time line he gave me, I said, well, if you do this thing in the morning I’ll have to be home in time to do evening chores. I told him I had goats that had to be milked. He asked if I had anyone that could do them for me and I said I suppose I could teach the dog how to do them but things are kind of hard for him sometimes since he doesn’t have opposable thumbs! I also just sent in all my entry forms for all my fairs shows on Monday so I have fairs I have to attend starting the last week of August. If I try to get the procedure done before the fair shows, I would have to dry the goats up therefore rendering my fair entries useless, not to mention a waste of money.
I think having it done AFTER the first week in September might be best. I’ll still be able to show the goats (using my knee brace and friends to help show). Once the shows are over I can then get everyone dried up, making chores only once a day instead of twice a day. At least until I can get around a little better, I’m hoping just a couple days will do it. I have a farm to take care of (small though it may be). Hay doesn’t stack itself and grass doesn’t cut itself. Yep, I’ll give it two days, that’s it....

The wind from the last storm we had go through, although it didn't last long, it changed my view to the north forever. My largest apple tree (old cider apple tree) blew over. It was LOADED with apple this year. I tried a couple of them after the mishap, and they were actually good. They are smaller because they weren't done growing yet but I think I still may be able to use them for cider making. I may give that a try.....

Something to Share.....
Listening to Mr. Jimmy Buffet today, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes
Favorite songs of mine on this album are: Wonder Why We Ever Go Home & Biloxi
But the whole album is great! Not sure why I am thinking tropical today, I guess because the weather here has been such that I feel like I am in a fish bowl!

More storms tonight
Tuesday, May 4, 2010
I would say it was the first REAL storm we've had so far this Spring. The wind blew from the front and then the rain came. Seems like it was over before I got back in the house from chores. Don't get me wrong, it rained until after I was asleep, but I don't think we got all that much. It looked a lot more intimidating on its way in than it turned out to be...

New Roadway Signage
Answer me this........Did the old road signs stop working? You know, the signs that say "CONSTRUCTION AHEAD".......Did someone find something wrong in the way they were worded?? Did they, Our Government, have to spend more $$$ in "Designing" these new HUGE signs? I mean...what the heck...we got the loans I guess, we might as well spend it. Is the mentality here? It surely couldn't be for the glorification of our government could it? I think the only thing they missed was that in all their design work, aren't they gonna need these signs to be in a language EVERYONE can read? I mean to be politically correct and all....just wondering...

2010 Kid Update
I went to an auction last Saturday. Bought some stuff I really didn't need but you gotta LOVE auctions! I got home just in time to do chores. I warmed the milk for the four bottle babies and headed to the barn. I fed all four and proceeded to get everything else underway when I found these two saanen kids...one buck and one doe
This morning the baby monitor sounded of in the kitchen and the familiar sound of new babies echoed through the house. I warmed up the colostrum I had saved from last week and hurried out there. Sutter did a great job. For a first timer she had no problems and she had twin boys. One completely FULL of spots and the other almost completely black with a white patch on the top of his head. They both are very tiny but they are doing fine.

Updated post with a picture as proof.
OK, so today at lunch I go to the yearly fish dinner put on by the Ottawa River Coalition. The fish is always good. The thing that was different this year were the census workers sitting at three long tables in the back of the room. In front of them, the tables were full of pens, pencils, travel mugs, hats, pennants and tee-shirts, everything branded with the 2010 logo and such. It's bad enough that our tax dollars are paying to have these people sitting there GIVING...yes I said GIVING this stuff away. At first I thought well, the stimulus money is at least keeping SOMEONE employed. HA, of the three items I actually saw and could read the tags....the travel mug was made in the USA...the tee-shirt was made in Nicaragua and the hats were made in Taiwan.......I don't get it.
It would appear that the hat at least is a product of Taiwan that was assembled in China and as for the Nissin on the cap tag...I think they are from Japan....Our stimulus $$$ hard at work......

Tuesday, March 23, 2010
Ok...so I am REALLY sorry, I forgot the flash card at home. No pictures today, maybe this evening when I get home, if my dial-up will allow me that much. It started out pretty nice this weekend, but by Saturday afternoon, is was downright cold. By early evening the rain moved in and it was windy with 37 degree temps. Staying in the house as much as possible (in between chore times)was my best bet. I stayed froze MOST of the weekend.

Thank Goodness...
All kids were moved back out to the barn on Friday. Thank goodness!
All four are doing great. They are in an enclosure with high sides so the drafts don't get to them. They have a little mini heat lamp that hangs in the one corner, so they can get away from the heat if they need to. Not exactly sure how many I have left to kids out there. I don't think many. I do know that I did not get anywhere near the amount of does bred this year as I have in years previous. Economy played a huge role in that. Maybe I'll get some updated pics soon.

Another kid of the 2010 season has arrived
I got home from work tonight and went out to get chores done. I was getting the grain ready when I heard that all too familiar sound....."THAT'S A BABY!!" Now I knew the other three kids were the house already so it had to be the kid of another one of my does I had AI'd...HOW TOTALLY AWESOME!!
Meet Lisbeth's 2010 kid born 3-3-10 (a doe)
Sire: Copper Hill Tiger Tracks
Dam: Husker Haven FXR Bec's Lisbeth
She was sort of cold and every time I went out to check on her she was just standing there, I was hoping her mother would at least lay down and she would then lay next to her to stay warm. I decided not to take a chance. I don't think she got any milk so she is now in the house as well. When it warms up for just a day even they will all go back out to the barn....so, without further ado....here she is....
I just wanted to add, Thanks Dan!

Black Sox kids UPDATE
Kid #2 bounced back from his rough start and is eating and bouncing around.
Kid #1 had to be brought in the house Monday morning. I found him out in the pen laying on his side. So, he got to stay wrapped up all that day and most of today. He wouldn't take a bottle at all. It was good if I could get him to swallow just a few drops at a time. When I got home from today I got the bottles ready and I set him in my lap and he drank for a second or so and quit (which was the best he had done so far). So, I went out and did chores and tried to feed him again when I came in. He drank and drank and drank!! So all three are doing GREAT for the time being, as things go around here. We usually operate on a hour to hour basis for just about everything here!!!

Sorry, no snowman army was built today. The snow would have been GREAT for it but I had other things to take care of.
Meet the newest arrivals at Husker Haven. They were all born within a couple minutes of each other. The first one was coming into the world rear end first therefore kinda holding up the other two. When I finally got him out the other two popped right out. All three are bucks.
Sire: Patch-Quilt-Farms D. Dominique
Dam: Husker Haven HXG Black Sox Law
The kids are not named as of yet but I'll come up with something.
Kid #1 seems to be sort of elusive to capture in a picture but I managed this one shot.
Kid #2, he was a little cold and when he started laying on his side, I decided he was going to have to come in the house and get warmed up and fed. He is doing a little better but I am still going to keep him close to make sure he does good.
Kid #3, this one was the largest one with ears like a bassett hound!

Well.....it appears to be snowing yet again in this part of the country. And with the new snow one can only hope it is damp enough to start again on the army.
About 5 mins after I took this picture it started snowing even harder making it impossible to see the tree line on the other side of the highway.

I got some of the bottom 1/3 of them done and the snow was so heavy, I decided to get the chores done just to take a break. I started back up toward the house to find that army never made it to the their fox holes. Festus took care of the marauding bunch and they never even saw what hit them, I didn't even get time to make their heads!
As a request, I am trying to post some video of a posting on the annihilation of snowman army. I didn't get any video of the carnage that was left of the latest loss of the snowmen, but I did capture a previous video. Festus took care of the single snowman quickly enough along with my egging him on. But I was oblivious to his onslaught on my building army.
(sorry, its a little dark and grainy):

We have gotten a lot of snow here in west central OH. I guess not as much as other places but it's enough. I have been plowing and shoveling pathways to get from one point to the other on my little farm. The dogs all love the snow, including Flint who shakes a little then takes off following his guide Festus through the drifts. Sometimes I lose site of him as even the smaller drifts swallow him up.

Dillon's latest visit to his docter.,,,,,
Last wednesday I had to get both Dillon and Flint (15 yo jack russell) to the vet for a follow-up visit for Dillon and Flint has had something going on with his ear.
Dillon sat still and very calm while his stitches came out. Once out, the vet felt the bump on his head again, The vet looked up and sort of smiled. He said that Dillon didn't seem to have ANY more pain at all. The tissue wasn't soft in the back anymore. After that good news, my only question was "Are we going to do anything with this Dome of Notre Dame on his head?" "Nope" was his answer.
I feel bad that he has this goofy sort of appeance, I mean, are the other dogs going to tease him? I'm kidding of course, I am thrilled that he is fine and will hopefully continue to be the great puppy, 9 mo. old 87 lb. puppy, for a long time. He's a great guy. I'll even say it again. whoever it was that dumped him that ditch, missed out on what a great friend they could have had.

Sorry, but WTF???
I had to take the day off work today because I am waiting for the propane man to get here to hook up and fill my new tank. I'm sitting here watching TV and Festus runs to window the barking. I get up and assume it's the propane truck. I look out the window and see the garbage man backing his truck down the highway. I watched,
wondering what the crap he was doing, thinking maybe he dropped stuff out the back. He stopped when he got to the corner of the pasture fence , put it in park, jumps out and throws a handful of whatever over the fence. Whaaaat?
I go ruuning out the back door barefooted just in time to see them heading east past the front of the house. I run back in the house and quickly pull my boots on. I run out to the pasture to see if I can get the dog away from whatever it was tossed over the fence. I yelled and the dog ran to the barn I run to the gate, my boots now filling with snow (no time to tie them up). I couldn't get the gate open, the snow was far too deep. I had to climb the fence.
Once on the grond on the inside of the pasture fence I make my way through the snow towards the front corner. I start looking around the best I can for ANYTHING that shouldn't be there. I get a very slight whiff of something but couldn't really say what it was. I finally see something red, half covered with snow. I grab it and the see another and grab that, I looked around for more and couldn't find any. I climbed back over the fence and went in the house.
Back in the house I found that I had two gravy coated dog biscuits. Right now I don't know if I want to be FURIOUS or understanding? I am sure the guy means well but..........what the HELL? WHO DOES THIS??
I got on the phone and called the company up. I told the lady that answered where I lived and what I had just witnessed. I got as far as "Throwing something over the fence..." and she stopped me with "Do you have a big dog out there? I told her yes and she tells me that the guys has been told by the rest of his crew he shouldn' t be doing that. Then she tells me that she will tell him when he comes in not to do that. In the same breath she revises that and says she is going to tell the business owner he is not to do that anymore.
Well, now I feel somewhat like a heel. The gesture probably would not have hurt the dog, but he stil should not have done it. I guess I'm not really mad, but I'm not sure how I should feel about the whole thing. This guy had no idea if the dog was on a special diet or anything about the dog.
The dog is a working dog. He has a job to do. That job is to protect the livestock he is pastured with. Protect them from threats that border his perimeter, be they stray dogs, raccoons, groundhogs, overhead threat of birds, coyotes and yes, HUMANS.
I told the receptionist I wasn' really mad, but a lot of time and effort goes into training a livestock guardian dog. To have him, week after week re-train my dog to think it is now OK to go ahead and just open the gate up, more or less, for anyone that comes along withj a biscuit?
I am now thinking about moving the pasture to the back of my property, it will make the dog have to work even harder and cost me more $$$, but what choice do I have?
I guess I am just pretty much PO'd.

Test results are back
I was over in Celina this morning filling out a job application and since my vet was less thana mile away I thought I'd stop just to say hi. I was lucky, the mail had already gotten there. The test results for Dillon had arrived! I don't really know all the tests they did with their samples, but all came back normal. That was the best news I've had in a while!
Dillon goes back to the vet on Wednesday to get his stitches out. I'm hopeful that the doctor has an idea on what we can do next. His head still hurts (of course, he just had it cut open). I wonder if when I allowed them to cut him open and get the samples if it could or will have irritated it even more and then in fact make the whole thing worse, I guess that COULD HAPPEN.
Right now he is happy and I am thrilled that everything was normal.

Time.....
Having days off in the middle of the week seems a strange thing. I can't remember having a day off when I didn't h\e some kind of plans.. 4ome that wasn't planned out weeks ago. I am almost finished with the book I'm reading, so maybe I'll go buy another book. Maybe I should get somwhat nice clothes on get out and get a few part-time job apps. That is probably a lost cause but I Don't think I have a choice. Ours hours got cut at work starting this week so I have to try to re-coop. if I have to take 8 hours off a week then I figure I have a couple days a week free. I'll find something to keep me busy, idle time does me no good at all.

Return from vet
I picked up Dillon last night form the vet. I guess I was expecting just a small band-aid or something. Instead I find that he now looks like a Frankenstein dog. He has stitches running both directions from side to side. They got their samples but won't know
anything until later this week.
Finally have a better picture of the poor guy!
They should get the results back sometime this week I HOPE! He is still a happy go lucky guy. He plays with Festus and still tries to get Flint to play (that doesn't happen). He is very very good when he is in the house. He is just a great dog.

Dillon update.....
I called the vet today just after lunch about Dillon. The receptionist that answered the phone told me he did good and is up and walking right now, but that he was going to put me on hold as the vet wanted to talk to me. Oh great……….The vet gets on the phone and starts telling me everything she did. I have no medical background, so most of the first 5 or 6 mins of the phone call was just “BLAH BLAH BLAH…BLAH BLAH BLAH”…? She finally said …BLAH BLAH BLAH when I got him opened up and could see the tissue I could see nothing wrong with it. It looked normal, good color just thick. She was expecting to find some vascular type tissue but it wasn’t there. She went down far enough to get a bone sample as well and is being sent out today for testing. The other vet was coming into work just as she was closing and they both talked about it and neither one could come up with anything. It’s just strange. I get to go pick him up tonight when I get off work….IF…the roads are OK (they were TERRIBLE at lunchtime. I will try to keep all up to date on this.
Falling Snow........
The falling snow started this morning around 9:30 and is expected to continue through Friday morning. If I was a weatherman, I could sit here and say we could get anywhere from 1 to 10". I'm thinking that would be a DREAM job! You'd almost NEVER have to be right and yet you get to keep your job. How fun would that be?! : )

**UPDATE**
The Tossed out puppy "Dillon"
Since the beginning of August/start of September 2009 Dillon has gained roughly 60#.
the morning after I found him he had to be taken to the vet. It was determined he was PARVO positive and was placed on IV's for 5 days. I bought him home at the end of the week and he did nothing but get better and put on weight. In October I took him to get his first round of puppy shots. In November, I took him back in to the vet because he had this big bump on his head. Whenever you touched it he would cry out. The vet decided to give him antibiotics thinking it was possibly a bone infection. When those pills ran out I took him back because the bump had not gone away, in fact it was a bit larger. They took three x-rays of his head and you could see on the films that there was SOMETHING there, but what, they didn't know. Again Dillon was prescribed with two more pills to take, one being a stronger antibiotic, to be taken for three weeks. Well, all the pills are gone. Dillon went back to the vet Saturday the 2nd. The vet was perplexed. The bump was much larger now and harder in the front. It was growing back over the top of his skull. The whole top of his skull seems to be covered with this growth. Very hard in the front, but newer growth is softer but still very firm and very sensitive. The vet then asked me "how far do you want to go with this". I almost lost it on that question, but held it together. I asked what the options were. He told me I could see a specialist at Ohio State but he wasn't sure what else he could do. I asked him if he could just cut him open and see what the heck was there. He said he couldn't do that, but maybe he could get a sample and send it off. He said he would find out how much that was and be back. When he came back he sat down and showed me the paper. I asked him that if we did this, at least we can maybe find out what we are dealing with right? He said he hoped so, that he had never seen anything like this. So, Dillon goes back the vet Wednesday night for a Friday morning operation to get a bone sample. Knowing how his life has been so far, I almost hating my self for not just putting him down when I found. That way he wouldn't be having to go through this crap now. I feel so bad for him. He is such a great guy (even though I now believe he might be part MASTIFF). He always wants to be included in on everything. When he can't be included he just sits waits. He rarely barks unless there is no room left on my lap (how much room came there be with a 70+# pooch wanting up?!). I a way, I don't even want to take him back, but I have to know. If I CAN do something I will. If I just can't, I can't. I have a lot of animals depending on me with a crapper of an economy going on Dillon was placed in my care I have to do what I can do.
